Is it genuine impressive progress or another data processing glitch?  Wednesday’s report of new COVID-19 cases dropped to a surprising 65, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.

As recently as Monday, the total was 422 new cases. Tuesday’s total was 253. Today’s numbers bring the cumulative tally to 38,131 cases, of which 27,197 are considered to have recovered. Twelve deaths were reported, raising the total to 665.

The test-positivity metric also shrunk to an encouraging low of 8.1. That is the portion of those tested for coronavirus who are indeed infected, regardless of symptoms. The threshold is 8 percent.

Here is the list of the OC cities that have the highest number of cases. Deaths are in parentheses.
