A string of five consecutive days of declines in new coronavirus cases was broken Friday when the Orange County Health Care Agency’s report showed an increase in new COVID-19 infections.

According to the OCHCA, new cases numbered 276, up from 229 on Thursday. Deaths were seven, up from one on Thursday.  Hospitalizations from the coronavirus hit 182, compared to 181 the day before. Cases of COVID-19 in intensive care units rose from 59 to 61.

Public health officials caution against reading too much into daily tallies. The key metrics that classify counties into tiers is based on the twin metrics of test positivity percent and number of positive cases per 100,000. Each of those is computed using a seven-day average with a seven-day lag, and they are updated each Tuesday.

Here is a list of the Orange County cities with the most cases. Deaths are in parentheses.

  • Santa Ana: 11,516 (315)
  • Anaheim: 10,204 (316)
  • Garden Grove: 3,280 (109)
  • Orange: 2,766 (71)
  • Huntington Beach: 2,617 (86).

Westminster has 1,163 cases and 31 deaths. Stanton has 727 cases and 17 deaths.
