A fire early Friday morning damaged a hair salon in a strip mall in Huntington Beach.

According to the Huntington Beach Fire Department, the alarm was sounded at 3:02 a.m. regarding the odor of smoke near Heil Avenue and Springdale Street. An engine company dispatched to the scene initially found no smoke or fire, but an inspection of nearby businesses discovered the feeling of heat coming through the window of Sapphire Salon and found smoke all the way to the floor.

Firefighters entered the business, put out the fire and kept it from extending to seven other businesses in the center.

Firefighters remained at the scene to clean up as well as boarding up the salon. The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is underway.
