Stanton continues its efforts to upgrade and expand its parks and recreational facilities. At the next meeting of the city’s parks commission, the city’s grant proposal application will be discussed for the Norm Ross Sports Complex.
The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. at the complex, 11111 Cedar St., west of Beach Boulevard and south of Katella Avenue.
Stanton is seeking to win a grant under the Prop. 68 Statewide Park Program. What’s included is taking the existing sports park – primarily devoted to a baseball/softball field – and adding a variety of amenities including:
- a community building
- water play area
- community garden upgrade
- playground
- skate park
- Little League field with an under-12 soccer field
- outdoor “flex space”
- perimeter walkway
- picnic area
- dog park
- basketball court
- exercise equipment
It might also be possible to use grant money to purchase an adjacent vacant restaurant on Beach Boulevard.
The grant is competitive, so public participation can help secure the funding.
