A pedestrian suffered fatal injuries when he was struck while crossing Beach Boulevard Monday evening in Huntington Beach.

According to Motor Sgt. Joshua Page of the HBPD, the incident took place at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Yorktown Avenue. Officers arriving at 6:12 p.m. found a white 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander sport utility vehicle, which had been driven by a 59-year-old woman from Corona del Mar, and a male transient from the Huntington Beach area.

Police believe the SUV was traveling south on Beach when it struck a pedestrian crossing westbound out of the crosswalk. He suffered extensive injuries and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was pronounced dead.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a factor in the incident.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call HBPD Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.
