Street racing has become an increasingly popular and dangerous fad in Orange County, and local law enforcement departments are taking steps to curb it.
In partnership with other agencies in the STEARRD program of enforcement, the Santa Ana Police Department conducted a campaign Dec. 18 and 19 that resulted in 18 citations, 11 impoundments of automobiles, two street racing-related arrests, 16 arrests of spectators, three unrelated arrests and the confiscation of two loaded firearms and a 50-round drum of 9mm ammunition.
