Cases decline, patients increase

CORONAVIRUS CASES are declining, but hospitalizations are on the rise (Pexels).

Two trends on coronavirus cases in Orange County are offering contradictory ideas about where the pandemic is headed locally.

For three of the last four days, the county health care agency reported declines in new cases of COVID-19. However, hospitalizations due to the pandemic and cases being treated in intensive care units are increasing daily.

According to the OCHCA, Thursday’s count of new cases was 3,490, a drop from 4,406 the day before. Deaths declined from two to one.

However, hospitalizations rose from 1,854 on Wednesday to 1,983 on Thursday. ICU patients being treated for the virus mounted from 394 to 405.

  • Santa Ana: 26,935 (360)
  • Anaheim: 23,292 (381)
  • Garden Grove: 8,359 (127)
  • Orange: 6,633 (82)
  • Fullerton: 6,313 (129)
  • Huntington Beach: 5,517 (96)

Westminster has 3,683 cases and 38 deaths. Stanton has 1,731 cases and 22 deaths.
