“Winter surge” is continuing

The feared “winter surge” of new coronavirus cases and deaths continues through Orange County, as key numbers remain high.

According to the county health care agency’s report on Monday, the number of new infections reported increased to 3,259, up from 3,121 on Sunday.

Deaths declined from 50 to 29, but hospitalizations from COVID-19 edged up from 2,216 to 2,221. The count of virus patients in intensive care units was down-slightly to a still-high count of 544, compared to 547 on Sunday and 528 on Saturday.

So far, there have been 191,861 cases reported to the OCHCA, of which 117,211 are considered recovered. Deaths to date are at 2,120.

  • Santa Ana: 35,401 (403)
  • Anaheim: 32,545 (442)
  • Garden Grove: 12,165 (147)
  • Orange: 9,128 (101)
  • Fullerton: 8,506 (143)
  • Huntington Beach: 7,728 (116)

Westminster has had 5,269 cases and 64 deaths. Stanton has had 2,447 cases and 26 deaths.
