COVID numbers show promise

ORANGE COUNTY is seeing new cases, hospitalizations and ICU use falling (Shutterstock). Mask-wearing may be a part of the reason, along with vaccination.

Most measurements of the coronavirus – save one – in Orange County tumbled in Monday’s report from the county health care agency.

According to the OCHCA, the number of new coronavirus cases declined to 1,330 from 1,795 on Sunday and 2,752 on Saturday. Patients hospitalized with COVID-19 infections were 1,703, down from 1,732 on Sunday and 1,818 on Saturday. Intensive care units devoted to the treatment of the virus declined to 447 from 467 on Sunday and 482 on Saturday.

However, deaths reported on Monday did rise to 66 from 13 on Sunday. Saturday’s total was 78.

To date, coronavirus cases here have totaled 224,618, with 158,291 considered recovered.

Deaths have totaled 2,704.

  • Santa Ana: 40,772 (493)
  • Anaheim: 37,678 (526)
  • Garden Grove: 14,512 (195)
  • Orange: 10,561 (133)
  • Fullerton: 10,022 (180)
  • Huntington Beach: 9,156 (131)

Westminster has had 6,192 cases and 101 deaths. Stanton has had 2,820 cases and 35 deaths.
