An 88-year-old woman died Tuesday afternoon after being struck by an automobile while crossing a street in Santa Ana.
According to the SAPD, the incident was reported at 11:54 a.m. at the intersection of Sullivan and Willits streets. Arriving officers found the woman lying down in the roadway suffering from “major injuries.” Paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority treated her at the scene and she was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was declared dead at 12:41 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated the woman was crossing Willits at Sullivan when she was struck by a vehicle making an eastbound turn. Police say the motorist driving the automobile left the scene, but he was later contacted at his home and is cooperating. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
