Confirmed new cases of coronavirus and related deaths each rose for the second day in a row in Orange County, although the second category may be more of a tabulation issue rather than an actual surge.

According to Saturday’s report from the Orange County Health Care Agency, COVID-19 infections rose to 269 from 232 on Friday and 160 on Thursday. Deaths were up to 98, compared to 62 and 42 the previous two days.

However, the OCHCA cautions that some to the numerical increase comes from “catching up” with earlier deaths not tabulated because of problems with the state’s reporting system.

Hospitalizations and the use of intensive care units to treat coronavirus patients both showed decreases.

Cumulative cases to date for Orange County are at 247,641, with 236,047 considered recovered. Deaths are at 4,173.
