New cases and deaths decline

SUNDAY’S figures on new coronavirus cases showed a downturn in Orange County (Shutterstock).

After two days of rising numbers, Sunday’s report from the Orange County Health Care Agency offered new hope that some restrictions spurred by the coronavirus pandemic might soon be lifted.

Sunday’s tally of confirmed new cases is at 110, one of the lowest totals in months, and a steep drop from Saturday’s 269. Deaths declined from 98 to 53 and hospitalizations due to COVID-19 infections skidded from 321 to 296.

The use of intensive care units for coronavirus patients showed a small increase, from 87 to 89.

The cumulative number of cases in Orange County is at 247,751, of which 236,312 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 4,226.

  • Santa Ana: 44,163 (749)
  • Anaheim: 41,052 (752)
  • Garden Grove: 16,230 (329)
  • Orange: 11,603 (218)
  • Fullerton: 11,096 (260)
  • Huntington Beach: 10,337 (190)
  • Irvine: 10,209 (76)

Westminster has had 6,990 cases and 164 deaths. Stanton has had 3,128 cases and 52 deaths.
