Stab murder at homeless shelter

A 57-YEAR-OLD Anaheim man has been arrested in a fatal stabbing Sunday at a homeless shelter in Anaheim (Shutterstock).

A homeless shelter in Anaheim was the scene of a stabbing that led to a death of one man and the arrest for murder of another.

According to the APD, the incident took place Sunday morning in the 1400 block of Salvation Place. That’s in an industrial area east of Lewis Street and north of Cerritos Avenue.

At around 6 a.m. officers responded to a report of an incident at the shelter and found Marcos Zavala, 36, suffering from at least one stab wound. He later died at a nearby hospital. At the shelter, officers interviewed Alvaro Mendoza Sahagun, 57, and detectives arrested him.

Sahagun was booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Anaheim detectives are not discussing a possible motive for the stabbing. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
