Chargers, Panthers soar in wins

THE PASSING GAME was the thing in Thursday night high school football games (Shutterstock).

Thursday night belonged to the quarterbacks as some of them put up impressive numbers in high school football play.

Edison defeated Newport Harbor 47-14 in a Sunset League game at Scheue Field behind the performance of Braeden Boyles, who passed for 441 yards and four touchdowns. The win improved the Chargers’ record to 2-0.

In a non-league contest at Fred Kelly Stadium, Orange High defeated La Mirada 40-9 as Daylen Pedroza threw for 241 yards and three scores for the Panthers (2-0).

Garden Grove League play opened Thursday night and Loara and Rancho Alamitos each posted wins. The Saxons defeated Santiago 31-14 and the Vaqueros bested La Quinta 28-13.
