Edison defeated Newport Harbor 47-14 in a Sunset League game at Scheue Field behind the performance of Braeden Boyles, who passed for 441 yards and four touchdowns. The win improved the Chargers’ record to 2-0.
In a non-league contest at Fred Kelly Stadium, Orange High defeated La Mirada 40-9 as Daylen Pedroza threw for 241 yards and three scores for the Panthers (2-0).
Garden Grove League play opened Thursday night and Loara and Rancho Alamitos each posted wins. The Saxons defeated Santiago 31-14 and the Vaqueros bested La Quinta 28-13.
