Angels open with rally victory

A two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 opening day win over the Chicago White Sox on Anaheim.  Mike Trout and Albert Pujols drove in the tying and winning runs.

Dylan Bundy worked six innings for the Halos, giving in six hits and three earned runs. He struck out six batters and walked one. The win, in relief, went to Mike Myers. At bat, the Angels were led by Max Stassi with two hits, a run scored and one RBI.

The Los Angeles Dodgers opened the 2021 season Thursday with an 8-5 loss to the Colorado Rockies in Denver. They out-hit their host 15-11 but didn’t hit well in the clutch.

Clayton Kershaw (0-1) started and worked 5.2 innings, yielding 10 hits and six runs, five of them earned. He struck out two batters and walked one. Five Dodgers had two hits. Corey Seager also walked twice and drove in a run.

At Staples Center, the Los Angeles Clippers fell behind early and never caught up, losing 101-94 to the visiting Denver Nuggets (30-18). The Clips (32-18) were led in scoring by Kawhi Leonard with 24 points. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and had four assists.

High school: Vaqs, Panthers cruise

Rancho Alamitos took another step toward the Garden Grove League football Thursday night with a 53-20 win over Santiago at Monsoor Stadium. The Vaqueros (4-0) are now 3-0 in league. Orange (4-0) smashed Millikan High of Long Beach in a non-league contest.
