CommUNITY picnic on Sunday

A COMM-UNITY picnic is planned for Central Park in Huntington Beach on Sunday (Flickr/George Redgrave).

A “CommUNITY Pop Up Picnic” is planned for Sunday at Central Park in Huntington Beach, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The City of Huntington Beach is sponsoring the event so residents can “celebrate diversity with local residents and leaders” in the community. Featured will be conversations with local leaders, food trucks, information booths, performances and “fun family” activities in the park, located at 7111 Talbert Ave. (at Goldenwest Street, behind the Central Library).

Attendees are reminded to bring their own picnic blankets and chair, wear a face mask and maintain social distancing.

Earth Day event for kids in HB

A special Earth-Day themed event will be held on Tuesday, April 20 at the Pacific City center on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach.

The Pacific City PC Grommets Kids Club event will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Level 2. There will be a live animal program featuring several “animal ambassadors” that may include armadillos, parrots, rabbits, frogs, owls, tortoises, foxes, snakes or porcupines.

Also planned is a reading of the book “Dear Earth … From Your Friends in Room 5” and a craft teaching kids how to make a bunny or frog from recycled egg cartons.
