FOUR AREA high school boys’ soccer teams advance to the second round of the CIF-SS playoffs.

Four of six local high school boys’ soccer teams advanced through the first round CIF-SS playoff games on Thursday and will compete in the second round on Saturday.

In Division 1, Edison defeated Mater Dei, 2-1. The Chargers (14-4-1) will take on Capistrano Valley (11-1-4) next.

In Division 2, Santiago (10-0-2) had a bye in first round and will play Hart (8-2-1) on Saturday. Also, Huntington Beach (12-2-2) bested Estancia 5-1 and draws Tustin (14-4-4).

In Division 3, Westminster (11-5-2) blanked Esperanza 3-0, and will meet Norte Vista (12-1-1). Los Amigos (8-1-1) fell 3-1 to Oaks Christian.

Baseball, softball, basketball pairings reveal

The CIF-SS will announce its boys’ and girls’ basketball pairings and brackets on Sunday, May 23 at 10 a.m.

For baseball, the pairings and brackets for baseball will be revealed on Sunday, May 30 at 10 a.m., followed by those for softball at 11 a.m.
