Six area teams will open play in the CIF-SS baseball playoffs this week. Some divisions will start action on Thursday and some on Friday. A seventh team is in a wild card playoff on Wednesday.

Here are the first round pairings as announced by the CIF-SS office Sunday morning.  Games are scheduled for 3:15 p.m. starts, but opponents, locations, times, etc. are subject to change without notice. Check with the CIF office or home school.

• Division 1 (Thursday): Santa Margarita (17-12) at Huntington Beach (23-4).
• Division 2 (Friday): Los Alamitos (16-7) at Pacifica (16-9). Simi Valley (11-15) at Ocean View (21-6).
• Division 4 (Friday): Centennial/Compton (19-9) at Loara (12-4).
• Division 6: (Friday) Orange (18-11) at La Quinta (9-10).
• Division 6 Wild Card C (Wednesday): Westminster (4-19) at Anaheim. The winner visits Calvary Chapel/Santa Ana on Friday.

Here’s how league pennant races ended

Five local teams won or tied for league titles in baseball play for the 2021 season. Here’s how area teams – schools serving Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster – did in conference play, according to final standings published by the CIF-SS.

• Empire: Pacifica (8-2 in league, 16-9 overall), Cypress (8-2, 17-10). Crean Lutheran (5-3, 16-9). Kennedy (3-7, 10-16), Tustin (3-7, 11-15). Valencia (3-7, 10-12).
• Garden Grove: Loara (8-2, 12-4). La Quinta (8-2, 9-10). Los Amigos (5-5, 5-5). Rancho Alamitos (4-6, 7-10). Bolsa Grande (4-6, 6-9). Santiago (1-9, 2-13).
