Deaths rise, other numbers fall

Deaths in Orange County from coronavirus rose in Friday’s report from the county health agency, but three other major categories showed declines.

According to the OCHCA, deaths increased from seven to 14. However, new confirmed cases dropped from 437 to 414, hospitalizations went from 521 on Thursday to 500 for Friday and the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units dropped from 143 to 138.

To date, Orange County has had 286,950 cases, of which 266,743 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 5,250.

Nationally, new cases are up 14 percent over a 14-day period, according to The New York Times. Deaths have risen 67 percent. In California, cases are up 2 percent over a similar period and deaths by 66 percent.
