Los Alamitos High’s football team staked its claim as the likely Sunset League champion with a 35-28 win over Edison High Thursday night at Boswell Field in Westminster.
Edison’s touchdowns came on a three scoring runs by Troy Fletcher and a 30-yard pass from Tyler Hampton to Tucker Tripp. Nicholas Preston kicked both PATs.
The green-and-gold trailed by as many as 21 points before a late rally cut the lead to seven.
The Griffins improved their overall record to 6-0 and are 2-0 in league play. The Chargers fell to 4-3 and 1-1.
In Orange League play at Glover Stadium, Western defeated Anaheim 56-7 in a battle of conference contenders. The Pioneers are 4-2 overall and 2-0 in league, while the Colonists went to 3-4 and 1-1.
Anthony Luna passed for 247 yards and two scores for the winners, and Johnny Martinez rushed for 67 yards and two scores.
