New case count jumps up

The roller coaster ride of new coronavirus counts for Orange County continued in Friday’s report from the county health care agency.

According to the OCHCA, today’s total was 328, a sharp increase from Thursday’s 200, which was a steep drop from Wednesday’s 341.

Deaths declined from six to two and hospitalizations dropped from 208 to 194. The number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units went from 49 to 47.

Since the pandemic began, Orange County has had 310,297 cases, of which 298,248 are considered recovered.  The total number of deaths is now 5,661.

At the national level, new cases are up 33 percent over a 14-day period, according to The New York Times. Deaths have declined 1 percent. In California, new cases have fallen 11 percent, but deaths have risen 114 percent over a similar period, reports Los Angeles Times.
