The statistics on the coronavirus in Orange County continue to vary day to day.
Monday’s tally of confirmed new cases – including weekend numbers for a total of three days in the count – was 769, which works out to 256 per day on average.
That compares to Friday’s sum of 328, which is a jump from Thursday’s 200. Deaths rose from two to three and hospitalizations continued their decline, falling from 194 to 186.
The number of people being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units rose to 49 from 47.
To date, Orange County has had 311,066 cases, of which 299,615 are considered to be recovered. The death total is 5,669.
Nationally, The New York Times is reporting new cases to be up 29 percent and deaths down 10 percent over a 14-day span. In California, Los Angeles Times calculates that new cases are down 11 percent while deaths have risen 114 percent over a similar period.
