One day after the signals were all green toward improvement in the coronavirus situation in Orange County, the lights turned red.

In Wednesday’s report from the county health care agency, all four major metrics measuring the pandemic in the OC showed increases, a turnaround from Tuesday’s across-the-board decreases.

New cases rose from 199 to 314 and deaths from six to 10. Hospitalizations moved from 194 to 206 and the count of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units ticked up from 63 to 64.

To date, Orange County has had 318,066 cases, of which 304,911 are considered recovered. The death total is 5,839.

Nationally, the numbers continue to rise. The New York Times is reporting that – over a 14-day period – new cases are up 46 percent and deaths by 40 percent.  In California, Los Angeles Times reports that cases are up 30 percent and deaths are down 3 percent over a similar period.
