A proposed new “automotive fleet storage” lot was approved by the Garden Grove Planning Commission on Thursday night.

Simpson Chevrolet, which operates a new and used car dealership on Trask Avenue in Garden Grove, wants to develop a vacant 1.7-acre site from the north side of Chapman Avenue to the east side of Gilbert Street.

The facility, which would be for storage of cars and not used for sales or repair, would accommodate 144 parking spaces. The site is on the former Pacific Electric right-of-way and is privately owned, but the Orange County Transit Authority retains a permanent easement across the property in the event that future public transit uses are developed.

Under the proposal, automobiles would be off-loaded at the Trask Avenue dealership, then driven individually to the fleet storage lot.
