The average of confirmed new cases of coronavirus reported on Friday for Orange County nearly doubled the most recent previous tally released on Tuesday.
According to the county health care agency, 3,091 new cases were reported over the previous three days. That’s a daily average of 1,030 (rounded off to the nearest whole number) compared to 519 on Tuesday, but more similar to the average a week ago of 991.
Deaths rose from zero to 11. Hospitalizations declined from 140 to 132 and use of intensive care units to coronavirus patients fell from 18 to 11.
To date, Orange County has had 575,086 coronavirus cases, of which 549,985 are considered recovered. The death toll stands at 7,045.
Nationally and statewide, new cases and are declining. The New York Times – over a 14-day period – reports that cases are down 3 percent and Los Angeles Times sees a decrease of 7 percent. However, NYT shows that across the U.S that deaths are down 7 percent, while LAT found a 23 percent drop.
