“Spongebob” on stage at Gem

“SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS” … you know the TV show (or your kids do) and now there’s the live-action stage musical at the Gem Theatre in Garden Grove.

If summer is here, it’s time to jump in the pool or ocean.

You can do that without actually getting wet when “The Spongebob Musical” opens at the Gem Theatre in Garden Grove on Thursday and continues through July 31.

“Spongebob Musical” is based on the popular children’s animated television series on Nickelodeon, but it’s not “for children only.”

The plot revolves around Spongebob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward and all of Bikini Bottom facing “total annihilation” until a hero emerges to save the day.

Performances will be Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. On Saturdays July 9 and July 16 matinees at 2 p.m. will also be offered.

The Opening Night Gala is set for Saturday, July 2.

For ticket information, call (714) 741-9550, ext. 221.

The Gem Theater is located at 12852 Main St. in downtown Garden Grove.
