Six people were killed and 30 hurt when a gunman shot at people attending an Independence Day parade in Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago.

According to the Associated Press, a “person of interest” – identified as Robert (Bobby) Crimo III, 22 – has been taken into custody in connection with the incident. He has not been officially termed a “suspect.”

Five of those killed are adults; the age of the sixth has not been confirmed. The people shot ranged in age from 8 to 85, reports the AP, and “four or five” of the patients are children. Nineteen were treated and discharged from local hospitals.

United Press International reports that police say the gunner was using a “high-powered rifle” and fired on the parade crowd from a rooftop.
