The City of Westminster will celebrate its 65th anniversary of incorporation with an inaugural Fall Festival.
Westminster was incorporated in 1957 as part of the wave of new cities formed in Orange County in the post-World War II building boom.
The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Civic Center, 8200 Westminster Blvd. (east of Beach Boulevard).
Planned are live entertainment, a craft fair, commercial vendors, food, a resource fair and children’s activities.
Although Westminster was founded as a Presbyterian colony in 1870, it remained an unincorporated town until the mid 1950s. The incorporation was initially planned to include the communities of Westminster, Barber City and Midway City as Tri-City. But the residents of Midway City balked and the new city took on the name of the original community.
