Moving fast to combat illegal street racing and “takeovers,” the Garden Grove Police Department in September deployed extra resources and netted a truck full of citations, arrests and impounded vehicles.

This, and other efforts, have resulted in a 79 percent decrease in fatal vehicle accidents in Garden Grove from 2021, according to Sgt. Royce Wimmer of the GGPD.

Officers issued 823 citations, including 273 for excessive/loud exhaust. Twenty-eight vehicles were impounded or stored.

Thirty-nine arrests were made, including nine for intoxicated driving  and five for street racing.
