An intruder shouting “Where is Nancy?” severely beat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband in their San Francisco home
The Associated Press reports that 82-year-old Paul Pelosi suffered a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands.
A suspect, David DePape, 42, was arrested on charges of attempted murder, elder abuse and burglary.
Nancy Pelosi was not at home at the time of the attack and flew home immediately from Washington after being notified of the incident.
“Monitors” may stake out ballot boxes
Members of a group calling itself Clean Elections USA has a right to gather near ballot drop boxes in Arizona to monitor voting, a federal judge has ruled.
According to The New York Times, Judge Michael Liburdi ruled that to prevent the group’s members – some of whom arrived with firearms and tactical vests – from gathering would be a violation of their First Amendment rights.
Also in the news … Jerry Lee Lewis, the rowdy pioneer rocker known for “Great Balls of Fire” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On,” had died at the age of 87.
Sports: Phillies win Series opener, 6-5
The Philadelphia Phillies rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Houston Astros 6-5 in 10 innings Friday in the opening game of the 2022 World Series at Minute Maid Park.
The game-winning home run came from J.T. Realmuto in the top of the 10th. Houston threatened in the bottom of the inning with runners at second and third, but were unable to score.
Realmuto was the hitting star of the game for the winners, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Top batter for the Astros was Kyle Tucker, who was 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs.
The win went to Seranthony Dominguez in relief. Luis Garcia was tagged with the loss, also in relief. Game Two will also be played in Houston on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
LAKERS LOSE: It’s now five losses in a row for the Los Angeles Lakers as they were defeated Friday night 111-102 by the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis.
LeBron James scored 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Lakers. Russell Westbrook added 18 points and eight rebounds.
The Lakers, at 0-5, have the worst record in the NBA. The Sacramento Kings are close with a 0-4 mark.
DUCKS DROP ANOTHER: The Anaheim Ducks lost 4-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights today (Friday) to see their record drop to 1-8-1.
Weather: Warmer, then cooler
The West Orange County area should experience a bit of a warming phase into the weekend before starting to cool later. The National Weather Service is predicting a daytime high on Saturday of 77 with an overnight low of 57. Morning fog should be followed by sun. Sunday will warm to 79 (57) and be sunny all day. Monday looks similar at 78 (60) with lots of sun. On Tuesday, the thermometer is expected to drop to 70 during the day; 57 at night with morning fog followed by clouds.
