New/old president for Brazil

Defeating his incumbent right-wing opponent for the presidency, left-wing candidate Luis Inacio de Silva will be returning to the power in Brazil.

“Lula,” as he is known, narrowly defeated President Jair Bolsonaro. It’s a remarkable comeback for a man, now 76, who served before as president from 2003 to 2010.

Later, he was convicted of corruption  and spent 580 days in prison.

His convictions were overturned on appeal in 2021. He will assume – or resume – power on Jan. 1, according to CNN.

Shortly after assuming ownership of Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk ignited a controversy by tweeting a link to a rumor about the attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House.

The link, later deleted, suggested – without evidence – that Paul had some kind of connection to the attacker.

The  allegation came from the Santa Monica Observer website, which – according to the Associated Press – once alleged that Hillary Clinton was dead and had been replaced with a body double.

Sports: Rams lose again to 49ers

Despite having a lead at halftime, the Los Angeles Rams couldn’t break the dominance of the San Francisco 49ers Sunday at SoFi Stadium and lost 31-14.

The Rams (now 3-4) lead 14-10 at the intermission, thanks mostly to quarterback Matthew Stafford and receiver Cooper Kupp. But the Niners owned the second half with three touchdowns.

Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 235 yards and two scores. Christian McCaffrey – recently traded to the Niners (now 4-4) – threw a 34-yard touchdown pass and rushed for 94 yards and a score.

Stafford had 187 yards passing and a touchdown, but the absence of a running game for the Rams continued to be evident. Kupp had 79 yards receiving and one TD. Their top rusher was Ronnie Rivers with 21 yards.

Overall, the Rams were outgained 368 yards to 223.

Next week the Rams will travel to Tampa Bay to play the Buccaneers.

OTHER RESULTS: The Los Angeles Clippers lost 112-91 to the  New Orleans Pelicans to fall to 2-4 on the season.
