A once-popular but now closed restaurant in Garden Grove was gutted by a fire Sunday afternoon.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the blaze was at the former Marie Callender’s in the 13200 block of Brookhurst Street.

Garden Grove police shut down Brookhurst Street between Trask Avenue and Garden Grove Boulevard in both directions while OCFA firefighters extinguished the flames.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

There have been a series of blazes in vacant or abandoned buildings in Garden Grove in recent months, some of them ascribed to homeless persons cooking or otherwise using flames within the structures.

  1. The city of Garden Grove needs to get rid of the homeless population. A new law needs to be made to prohibit homeless encampments on city and private property.
