Coastline Community College of Garden Grove is inviting high school students to participate in a singing contest to be held in conjunction with the 23rd Annual Elvis Festival set for Sunday, Oct. 8, which will be staged in the adjacent Pecor Plaza and Main Street to the campus.
Interested singers do not have to look, sound or move like Elvis Presley, but must sing one of his songs in their own style. To be considered for one of three stage spots during the Festival contestants must submit a recording or video of themselves singing a Presley song to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday, Sept. 15 and include the following information : full name, age, name of high school or designate home school, phone number and name of parent or guardian. No entry fee is required.
Three entrants will be selected to perform at the festival and placings will be announced after the showcase is completed. Prizes will include a $100 gift card for first place, $50 gift card for second place and a $25 gift card for third place, along with other awards.
Elvis Festival is an all-day tribute to the King of Rock and Roll, and features a variety of Elvis singers, bands, strolling entertainment, Elvis fan clubs, specialty vendors, memorabilia and collectibles, a classic car show, food trucks and dog rescues in honor of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month (Hound dogs!).
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is free as well as parking, which is available at the Concorde Career College and Coastline College lots adjacent to the event, which is on Main Street between Acacia Parkway and Garden Grove Blvd.
There are a limited number of paid reserved seats for stage entertainment and can be purchased online at Eventbrite under 23rd Annual Elvis Festival. A free section of seating is also available.
