It wasn’t a great week for high school football teams in our West Orange County area.
They managed to post just three wins against nine losses as we move toward the last week before many teams start league play.
Perhaps the most surprising development is Edison High, ranked among the best in Southern California. But now, after losing 31-7 to San Clemente on Friday night, the Chargers have lost two straight games and are 1-3.
The worst blowout was Garden Grove’s 41-0 loss to Torrance. The loss dropped the Argonauts to 2-3, and the shutout was particularly noteworthy for a team that scored 49 points the week before.
Rancho Alamitos, which beat Godinez 24-7 is starting to emerge as the favorite to repeat – again – as the Garden Grove League champs. They’re 3-1 overall, while Bolsa Grande, La Quinta and Los Amigos all suffered losses.
