The waiting and speculation are over … Shohei Ohtani will be turning in his Angel red for Dodger blue. The two-way star for the Halos has agreed to a record 10-year, $700 million contract after a lengthy and public process during which he and his agent met with several teams, reportedly including the Dodgers, Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees.

It’s considered the most lucrative contract in sports history and is bigger than the payrolls of the Oakland A’s and Baltimore Orioles.

The contract is described as being structured so that much of the money will be deferred so as to lower how much counts against the Dodgers share of luxury tax.

Ohtani played six seasons with the Angels, winning two Most Valuable Player awards along with other accolades. In his best year – 2021 – he hit 46 home runs, had 100 RBIs and as a pitcher posted a 9-2 record with a 3.18 ERA for a losing team.

Under pressure from several directions, University of Pennsylvania President M. Elizabeth Magill resigned her post on Saturday.

Her comments in the aftermath of the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza between Israel and Hamas militants raised complaints from alumni, public officials, donors and others.

While testifying in Congress on whether calls by some Palestinian students for “intifada” – uprising – represented advocating genocide against Jews, her answer enraged some.

When asked if “calling for the genocide of Jews … does that constitute bullying or harassment?” her reply was “It’s a context -dependent decision.”
