Cease-fire outline emerges

APARTMENT RUINS IN Gaza City (Wikipedia).

What’s been described as a “bare-bones” outline for a two-month pause in the Israel-Hamas conflict has reportedly been developed by the U.S, Israel, Egypt and Qatar.

The lengthy cease-fire would be predicated on the swap of Israeli hostages held by Hamas militants for Hamas prisoners held by Israel.

As of Monday, Hamas has indicated it has not yet received a proposal, although acknowledging that “great efforts” were being made by mediators to stop the combat. In the meantime, Israeli forces continue to advance southward into Gaza.

Drone’s mistaken identity was deadly

The drone that killed three U.S. troops in Jordan may have been mistaken for an American device, officials said on Monday.

At the same time the attacking drone was approaching, a U.S. drone was returning to an installation and the confusion may have resulted in no attempts to shoot the attacker down.

President Joe Biden has vowed to “respond” to the attack, which is believed to have to been backed by Iran. He met with national security advisers on Monday to discuss options.
