Spring watch lists are out; two West OC coaches are moving on

Watch lists for spring CIF-SS sports are out. Here are the teams in our West Orange County area that made the lists.

Baseball
• Division 1: Huntington Beach (fifth);
Division 6: Garden Grove
• (eighth).

Softball
• Division 1: Huntington Beach (fourth), Pacifica (13th).
• Division 3: Edison (sixth).
• Division 5: Ocean View (eighth).
• Division 7: Los Amigos (10th).
Girls Lacrosse
• Divisions 1 & 2: Edison (fourth), Huntington Beach (sixth)
Girls Beach Volleyball
• Division 1: Edison (third).

New role for Cepeda at Grove

Ricardo Cepeda, the veteran head football and baseball coach at Garden Grove High School, is making a change. He is stepping down from his football position to become athletic director, succeeding Ralph Stephens, who is retiring.

He will continue to coach the Argo baseball team this spring.

During Cepeda’s tenure in football, the Argos won a CIF-SS title and seven championships in the Garden Grove and Big Four leagues.

Anderson resigns at WHS

Steven Anderson, head football coach at Westminster High School, has resigned.

He is reportedly planning to concentrate on his role of as a classroom teacher.

The Lions were 28-13 over the last four seasons and made it to the CIF-SS Division semifinals in 2023.
