In battle of two nationally-ranked teams, Pacifica High defeated Los Alamitos High 5-2 under the lights at the Mariner diamond Friday night.
The M’s, now 4-0, are ranked first in the nation by MaxPreps.com. The Griffins are 2-2 and came into the game ranked 28th.
Michaela Meza drove in two runs for the M’s, and Delaina Maae also drove in two, including hitting a home run.
The winning pitcher for the home team was Brynne Nally. She pitched a complete game and yielded six hit and two runs. She struck out six batters.
Pacifica now heads to Bullhead City in Arizona to take part in the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions.
Vikings play for a CIF-SS title
The Marina High School boys’ basketball team will take on Long Beach Poly on Saturday at Edison High School at 3 p.m. for the CIF-SS Division 2A championship.
The Vikings are 25-7 and the Jackrabbits are 24-8. Marina tied for the Wave League title and Poly won the Moore League crown.
Both teams have already qualified for the CIF Regionals.
New football coach at Westminster
Alex DeGiacomo has been named the new head football coach at Westminster High after several years as defensive coordinator.
He will replace Steve Anderson, who retired from the head coach position.
