Trump polled nearly 60 percent; LA Lakers lose to the Suns

FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP

With unofficial final results in on Sunday, former president Donald Trump finished the South Carolina Republican presidential primary with nearly 60 percent of the vote.

Trump, the GOP nominee in 2016 and 2020, garnered 451,905 votes (59.8 percent), which won him 47 delegates to the Republican National Convention where a nominee is officially selected.

His last remaining rival, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, received 298,674 votes (39.5 percent), worth three delegates.

Trump won all the state’s counties save those along the south coast and one in the central part of the state, which went to Haley.

Next on the political calendar are Michigan’s primary and caucuses on Feb. 28 and March 2. Thirty-nine delegates to the GOP convention will be at stake.

That’s what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday. Some U.S. estimates place that number higher.

He said that Russian forces have paid a much higher price, with 180,000 killed and 320,000 wounded.

Not included in casualty estimates are civilians killed or wounded.

Zelensky’s comments come as Congress wrestles with balancing the issue of funding aid for Ukraine (also Israel and Taiwan) with greater border security.
