Pacifica High School’s softball team is seeking to defend its ranking as the number one team in the nation by competing in the prestigious Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz.
The Mariners started tournament play on Thursday, defeating Hillcrest High of Riverside 12-1.
On Friday, the M’s played two games and they defeated Lutheran High of Orange 3-0 as Brynne Bailey pitched a four-inning no hitter.
She struck out four and walked one, she had one hit and drove in one run.
Kaniya Bragg went 2-for-2, scored twice and drove in one run.
The Mariners kept their streak going with a 5-1 win over West High (Torrance) to improve their record to 7-0.
Marina’s softball team improved to 7-1-1 with a 1-0 win over JSerra on Friday.
The Pacifica High baseball team (now 5-2) playing in the Best of the West Tournament defeated Kofa High of Yuma, Arizona by 13-1 on Friday and then bested Mountain Ridge of Glendale, Arizona by 13-5.
On Wednesday, the La Quinta softball team edged Santa Ana 8-7 in eight innings. Freshman Raellie Faatuga knocked in the winning run.
Priscilla Ballesteros had three hits and a walk, and Bella Ballesteros had two hits and two walks.
