Trump posts $175m bond; Florida abortion ban is upheld

A $175 million bond was posted by former president Donald Trump on Monday in his civil fraud case in New York, heading off collection of the total amount of $454 million he’s been fined.

The partial payment will keep him from paying the bigger number while his appeal of the original conviction continues.

If he loses that appeal, he will have to pay the $454 million, plus interest. If he wins, he gets his $175 million back.

Trump was convicted in February of lying about his wealth in an effort to get favorable financial terms, including loans and interest rates. Trump denied the charges.

Florida abortion ban upheld, but …

ABORTION laws in question.

The State of Florida’s ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy was upheld Monday by that state’s Supreme Court on  6-1 vote.

However, the same court voted 4-3 in favor of letting a ballot measure go to voters that could put abortion rights into the state constitution.

The rulings could have an impact on the November presidential election, as even though Florida has trended red in recent years, several “red” states have voted in favor of abortion rights since Roe v. Wade was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.
