The two West Orange County Division 1 baseball teams split their CIF-SS round one games on Friday.
Huntington Beach (21-8 ) overpowered Santiago of Corona 11-2, and Pacifica (18-10) lost to Aquinas 7-2.
Against the Sharks (16-13), the Oilers got a strong start from Nathen Aceves, who pitched four innings, yielding just three hits and one earned run.
At bat, Matt Hansen went 2-for-2 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored. Trevor Goldenetz was 2-for-3 and scored one run.
HBHS will next face the Villa Park Spartans (18-11) on Tuesday. Villa Park got to the second round with a 6-1 win over Bishop Amat.
The Mariners closed out the 2024 season with an opening round defeat at the hands of Aquinas High of San Bernardino. For the M’s it was their fourth straight loss.
The Falcons will go on to play Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks on Tuesday.
In boys’ tennis, Garden Grove lost 13-5 to Xavier Prep in Division 4, second round action. In Division 5, second round, Bolsa Grande defeated Montclair 12-6 and Western bested Quartz Hills 12-6.
In Division 6, second round play, Los Amigos eased past Gary 10-8.
