A 34-year-old Garden Grove man is dead and a juvenile motorist is in custody after a multi-car traffic accident in Garden Grove Saturday night.
According to GGPD Traffic Investigator John Yergler, the incident took place around 9:46 p.m. on Taft Street between Garden Grove Boulevard and Trask Avenue.
Officers located a stolen vehicle in the area of Taft and the Boulevard and sought to make a traffic stop. The vehicle being sought moved southbound on Taft and crashed into three others at Trask Avenue.
The juvenile driver – identified only as male – fled the scene on foot and was taken into custody a short distance away. A passenger in his vehicle left the area and has not yet been found.
More officers arrived at the scene and gave medical aid to the injured parties until Orange County Fire Authority personnel arrived. One of the victims is in critical condition while the other – identified as Kevin Luu – was later pronounced dead.
The juvenile suspect was treated for minor injuries and later booked into Juvenile Hall.
An investigation into the incident followed and the Orange County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Alcohol and/or drugs are believed to be a factor in the collision and results are pending from the Orange County Crime Lab.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident who has additional information or who knows the identity of the missing male passenger or who has video footage of the collision is encouraged to contact Investigator Yergler at (714) 741-5772 or by e-mail at Johny@ggpd.org.
