If you hope to fatten your win-loss record, your chances are better if you face a last place team.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels each played a cellar dweller – the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central and the Oakland Athletics in the American League West –  and both came away with victories.

In Chicago, Shohei Ohtani was again the Blue Crew star. Batting in the lead spot, he hit his 24th homer and drove in what proved to be the winning run later with a single in the Dodgers’ 4-3 win over the White Sox. Freddie Freeman hit his 12th home run and ended up with two RBIs.

The Dodgers are now 50-31 and in first place in the National League West. The ChiSox fell to 21-60 and remain in last place in the NLC.

Back in Anaheim, the Angels got a grand slam from Mickey Moniak in the fifth inning that helped boost them to a 7-5 win over the A’s.

Tyler Anderson (7-7) had a shaky five innings for the Halos. He yielded five hits and three runs, while walking five and striking out just two. The A’s rallied with two runs in the eighth but fell short.

The Angels are now 32-46 and remain in fourth place in the AL West.

On Wednesday the Angels will again host the A’s; the Dodgers will close out the series with the White Sox.
