J.D. Vance, a U.S. Senator from Ohio, has been selected to be former president Donald Trump’s running mate as the Republican Party’s nominee for vice president. He was announced and nominated at Monday’s meeting of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Vance was first elected to the Senate in the 2022 election. Previously he served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Iraq War. He has a B.A. degree from Ohio State University and a law degree from Yale.

He is known only as the author of the well-received book “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis.”

Vance is a conservative, opposed to abortion (except when the mother’s life is at stake) and American military aid to Ukraine, but supported assistance to Israel in its fight against Hamas.

He’s 39 and married and has three children.

 Security lapses discovered at shooting

A thorough investigation has been ordered into the situation surrounding the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump.

Principal among the questions raised is how Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was able to climb onto a roof nearby the stage where Trump was scheduled to make an address.

Witnesses pointed out a man – Crooks – with a rifle on top of a building to police. An officer climbed to the roof, but retreated – or fell – without firing a shot after the gunman pointed his rifle at him, according to the Associated Press.

“We are speaking of a failure,” said Alejandros Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security,” who promised an independent review.

Weather: Another slow incline

Daily temperatures in our West Orange County area will creep up toward the coming of the weekend. The skies will be partly cloud through Thursday, with the sun breaking through on Friday.  The daytime high on Tuesday will be 80 with an overnight low of 65. Wednesday and Thursday should be slightly warmer at 81 (64), but Friday is forecast to reach 85 (66).
