A 15-year-old boy missing since Sunday night off Huntington Beach while swimming in the ocean has not been found.

According to a city spokesperson and the U.S. Coast Guard, operations to find the boy have not been successful despite efforts by swimmers, divers, boats and helicopters.

The incident began when a group of teenage boys went swimming in an area south of the Huntington Beach city pier. The youths got out of the water and noticed one of their group had not surfaced around 9 p.m. It’s believed he may have been caught by a rip-tide.

The search area ranged from the area of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands north all the way to Newport Beach to the south. Searches by helicopter are expected to resume on Tuesday.
