Candidates near filing deadline

With a little over a week to go, candidates for city council, mayor and other city positions are weighing their options, gathering their signatures and hoping for success on Nov. 5.

Candidates for public office in Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster must return their completed nomination papers to their respective city clerks by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.

If there’s a situation in which an eligible incumbent has chosen not to run for re-election, the filing period deadline is extended to Wednesday, Aug, 14, also at 5 p.m.

Here is the list of candidates – as of our deadline on Tuesday – who have pulled nomination papers and those who have submitted completed forms. Incumbents are marked with an asterisk*. Those who have submitted completed forms are marked with **.

Garden Grove Mayor: Diedre Thu-Ha Nguyen, John O’Neill, Musaag B. Mughal, Phat Bui.

Garden Grove City Council (District 2): Philip Nguyen.
