The “Happy Autumn Moon Festival” will be held on Saturday on Garden Grove’s historic Main Street featuring mooncakes and lanterns.
The Moon Festival, also known as Mid-Autumn Festival, is a traditional event celebrated in Asia. Its history goes back more than 2,000 years and it is considered one of the most important festivals by some Asian countries. The festival represents togetherness as families comes together and enjoy some delicate mooncakes while children play with their bright lanterns.
Scheduled for 3:30 to 9:30 p.m., the Garden Grove event – first held in 2023 – will include folk games, a costume contest, a lantern parade and more. Activities will include the making and painting of lanterns. Cash prices will be awarded for the winners of those contests.
Five hundred lanterns and 500 mooncakes will be distributed free to attendees. Main Street will be closed to vehicles between Garden Grove Boulevard and Acacia Parkway between 2 and 10 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Vietnamese Soccer Association of Southern California.
