Hurricane Milton is predicted to take a loop past Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and curl in a northeast direction toward Florida and make landfall on Wednesday evening.
The storm, now officially a Category 5 hurricane, is predicted to weaken to Category 3 by then but will still strike Orlando and Tampa by Thursday night.
Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for areas of Charlotte County, Citrus County and Collier County. Special emphasis is put on people living in mobile homes, manufactured housing or “any structure not capable of withstanding winds of up to 110 m.p.h.
Hurricane Helene, which struck the other side of Florida last week killed over 230 people. Those in the storm’s path are warned not to rely on it losing its intensity.
Harris, Trump speed up campaigns
With about three weeks left before Election Day, both Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump are increasing their appearances, both in person and on television.
Harris, the Democratic nominee had an interview on the “60 Minutes” program Monday night. Her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was also interviewed.
Trump, the Republican nominee, will hold a rally in Aurora, Colorado on Friday and has pledged to hold another in Springfield, Ohio, site of the false “migrants eating pets” claim.
ABC’s 538 election site runs simulation of possible outcomes and had Harris winning the Electoral College 55 time to 44 for Trump.
Sports: It’s off to San Diego now
With their National League Division Series tied at one win each, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres head south to the border for Game Three on Tuesday.
After the Blue Crew’s 7-5 win on Saturday, the Friars evened things up with a 10-2 win on Sunday, thanks to a six-homer barrage.
Weather: More of the same
Conditions in our West Orange County cities won’t change much in the next few days with daytime highs in the high 70s and low 80s. Overnight lows will range from 59 to 61. Tuesday is expected to be 80 (59) with morning fog and afternoon sun. Wednesday will dip to 79 (60) as a string of partly cloudy days returns at least through Friday. Thursday (80/61) and Friday (81/61) will see a slight uptick in heat.
