A knife-wielding 43-year-old woman has been arrested in Westminster for attempted murder in what police believe may be a random act of violence.

According to Commander Andy Stowers of the WPD, arrested was Victoria Vu, a former San Diego resident with no known updated address.
The incident began around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday in the area of the Civic Center, 8200 Westminster Blvd., when police were summoned in reference to a stabbing.

They found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Medical aid was provided first by police and then by Orange County Fire Authority personnel.

The victim told police that he was walking through the the courtyard with his child when a woman – unknown to them – threw a bottle at them. She then walked toward the victim and showed a knife.

Vu then allegedly tried to stab the child, who was shielded by her father. The man suffered stab wounds in his hand and leg. The attacker persisted in trying to wound both father and child, but he was able to block her attempts.

The suspect then walked away but remained in the courtyard. She was located – still with a knife – and arrested without incident.
The child dd not suffer any injuries.

Police say the father said that “an unknown member of the public” stepped in between the attacker and victims and may have saved them from further injury.

WPD is seeking anyone with information about the attack as well as the identity of the Good Samaritan that intervened in the attack. Police do not believe the attacker had a motive and the attack may have been random.

Vu was booked into Orange County Jail for attempted murder, felony child endangerment and possession of a switchblade knife. Anyone with relevant information is asked to call Detective J, Bell at (714) 548-3724 or the WPD watch commander at (714) 548-3767.
